The Fan Opinion: Roland Alberg, 2016 Home Jersey

After a month's hiatus, the blog is back. Here's The Fan Opinion on the latest Union news:

Roland Alberg to the Union: This offseason Earnie Stewart and the Union front office have made some solid moves, bringing in players such as veteran forward Chris Pontius, center back Anderson Conceição and former NASL Best Eleven selection Walter Restrepo. While these moves may have bolstered the squad, the team still needs a true goalscorer to put it over the edge, and Dutch forward Roland Alberg might fill that need. Alberg, who currently plays for Dutch club ADO Den Haag, was linked to the Union for much of January and now seems sure to join the team after a post was uploaded on Wednesday to Den Haag's website saying (after a rough Google-Translation) that Alberg is currently in the United States while he "smooths out the last wrinkles for a transfer to the Philadelphia Union." Alberg is also a former AZ Alkmaar academy product, and his connection to Earnie Stewart may have helped him find his way to the Union. Reports say that his signing may be announced by the Union as early as Friday or Saturday.

- The Fan Opinion: This is a good move. Alberg is young (only 25 years old) and knows how to score goals, which is something that the Union need desperately. This signing would be another highlight in an excellent offseason for Earnie Stewart and the front office and is a great way to utilize Stewart's AZ connection.

2016 Home Jersey Design Leaked: This Wednesday, the design of the Union's 2016 home jersey, originally set to be released on February 4th, was leaked on Twitter. The jersey, which follows the Union's usual blue and gold design, will feature three gold stripes running down its sides, a gradient gold center and solid blue shoulders, as well as jersey sponsor Bimbo Bakeries logo across the stomach. Check out a photo of the jersey HERE.

- The Fan Opinion: This is a good-looking jersey, especially without any pinstripes or crazy shoulder trim. I especially like that the Adidas stripes have moved to the sides: it differentiates the team from the rest of the league.
